Thank you for your purchase of the Revolution “SOLO” Double Bass Pickup.

Please follow these instructions during the installation of your pickup, failure to do may result in damage to your pickup.

1.  Remove the G string completely from the bass, remove felt washer if present.

2.  Thread the string through the Jack Clip as shown below, thread felt washer back onto string.

3.      Install the G String back on the bass, adjust the Jack Clip so that it is facing toward the outside of the tailpiece as shown below.

4.      DO NOT tighten the string up to pitch! This allows the input jack to be slipped into place.  Once the Jack Clip is in place the string can be tuned back up to pitch.

5.  Upon purchase, the pickup element will be sized at approximately 7mm in thickness.  Sizing the element to fit your bridge can be done in one of two ways:

a) removing thickness from the actual pickup using a block of wood and a piece of 200 grit sand paper and/or

b) the wing space of the bridge can be widened using a small file.

DO NOT remove wood from the side of the pickup branded with the "R"

DO NOT  reduce the overall thickness of the element below 4mm (about the thickness of three pennies).  If your bridge wing space is less than 4mm then step "B" above is necessary.

TAKE CARE not to remove wood without checking for a good fit, be sure to remove wood evenly, a little at a time, keeping the pickup and the bridge wing slot square and level.  The pickup should be fit snug and tight, centered in the wing slot for optimal response and tone as shown below.  The pickup can be mounted in either direction, with branded R side up or down.  This adjustment will change the response, tone and sound (most basses will sound best with the "R" side facing the strings).

If the pickup is not fit tight enough this will restrain the response and result in a weak or nasal tone without proper volume.  Similar results will be heard if the pickup is too tight.

Sound Tip: Before installing the unit, plug it into your amp (make sure the volume is low!!!).  Gently tap on the hot side (marked by the branded "R") with your finger to find the hot spot of the element. This hot spot should be located under the "R".  If your pickup has an off center hot spot, make sure to install your REVOLUTION with the determined hot spot centered within your bridge wing.

CAUTION:  Damage caused to the wires during installation will not be covered by the manufacturers warranty; this includes mishandling the pickup and loosening the wires where they enter the pickup element.  If you damage your unit during installation you may send your pickup to Upton Bass for a reconditioning service.  Please see the full service description for more information.

6.  The RCA Jack mounted on the pickup wire simply plugs into the RCA of the input Jack that is now mounted on the back of the tailpiece.  These two pieces may have been plugged together when the pickup was shipped from the factory.

7. Above is the pickup fully installed on the bass.  Keep the wire lead from touching the top or other areas on the bass.  If the wires come in contact with the bass, rattles or buzzing may be heard when amplified.

For further installation assistance please contact the dealer from which you purchased your pickup.
